Wedding in the Mountains
Wedding in the mountains operation of the liberation of Shushi found it’s real expression in Armenian mountains. Armenian Geographic organized a two-day hiking trip to Khustup mountain and at the peak of the mountain a couple celebrated their wedding.
The Bride on the Summit of Khustup
Zara Danielyan, who was wandering in her wedding dress on the summit of Khustup and being photographed with her husband Armen Balkhcyan, tells that they had the idea of spending their wedding in the mountains for a long time.
“Climbing Khustup was not in our plans as we were planning to go to the Alps from Italy for our wedding. However, because of or due to coronavirus we found ourselves in Khustup. I had heard about Khustup a lot, I saw the pictures of it and for me it was the most beautiful mountain. I saw pictures when people celebrated their wedding in the mountains. Actually we did the same only we were two of us in our wedding and a group of strangers who are already so close. My wedding dress was a skirt that my mom sewed for me. When I put a bride veil everyone looked at me surprisingly as they didn’t expect to see me in a wedding dress. We were just photographed in that wedding dress in Armenian mountains”,- tells Zara.
She told us that her real wedding is going to take place in October, but that day was very symbolic for them: “We like doing extraordinary things. One of our friends commented on our photo saying that it was one of the first heights of our life, and we can start our life together from this height. Actually we didn’t think much about the meaning, we just felt so good at that time and after 10 years we will climb Khustup again and will celebrate that day”.
Zara says this was the first hike that they did together: “I think it’s a good start and we will continue hiking, especially with ArmGeo as we are very impressed with them”.
From Khustup to Ararat
The bride says that they were not physically prepared for this hike that’s why it was difficult for them: “Especially for me it was difficult as I was not ready for this hike. At the beginning it was very interesting when we saw the sunrise. As Armen is also a photographer, besides the wedding dress he also took his camera equipment, so we had many things to carry with us. So, that was difficult for me. We even left a camera stand on our way to Khustup, but no one took it, so we found it when we were back to the camp”.
We asked her what kind of feelings they had after such a difficult hike and celebrating their wedding on the summit of Khustup. Zara answered that everything happened so fast that she didn’t have time to think what she felt: “It felt like we were in clouds. From that height it seemed like Armenia was in our palms. After Khustup we put several points in front of us and gradually we are going to reach Ararat. It has become a goal for us. It was very exciting when I was looking at our mountain in a wedding dress”.
After their wedding in the mountains Zara and Armen will keep on hiking and reaching higher summits. And the next planned destinations are Mount Azhdahak and Mount Aragats.
