Nowadays the ways of active and extreme tourism are becoming even more popular than the traditional ones. The main reason is that these kinds of activities have also a very good impact on our body, health and psychology.

There are already many types of sport tourism and we can admit that the new ones are created and developing on daily basis. Today we are going to talk about SUP boarding. This is quite fresh activity in Armenia but it is widely spread in the world.

Let’s get started with the name. SUP boarding means stand-up paddle boarding. Surfing is the basis of this activity, but today they are different sport activities. It should be mentioned that this is suitable for everyone no matter age and physical conditions. The reason is that the boards for SUP are wider than the surfboards and the paddles make the movements easier. Later, to make the transfer of boards easier they created inflatable versions.

The origin of  SUP boarding

SUP boarding exists from ancient times. It has its roots in Africa, South America, and the ancient Polynesian culture. According to the history wooden paddleboards were used by 16th-century natives. They used them to move from one place to another. They used the boards for silently entering the territories of enemies. The boards had until 6 meters length. The biggest and the most prominent boards belonged to the members of the royal family. The first SUP producing company was established in 2005, and for the first time this activity was practiced as a sport in 2007.

Doctors say that this sport activity can enhance our health and well-being in numerous ways. Firstly, it is very good for our cardiovascular system. No matter age and physical conditions each of us need to do cardio trainings as it is the best way to improve blood circulation. Supboarding can be our favorite way of doing cardio trainings as it involves complex and dynamic movements.

As your body is moving all the time during this sport activity you lose weight. So, it can effectively replace any other sport activity. Moreover, it helps to train your body as almost all the muscles are working when you are on the board. We know that in natural environment physical activity triples the effectiveness of training. Consequently, calming and concentrating ability of water is added in the case of supboarding.

Who can do SUP boarding?

Unlike other types of sport it is very easy to do SUP boarding. This is both for kids and adults. This sport activity has other advantages, as well: you can do it no matter what is the direction of the wind and weather. So, you just need to sit or stand on the board and paddle.

Therefore, you don’t need special abilities for doing this sport activity. If you like cycling or something similar SUP boarding may become your favorite type of sport.
