Mount Sevkar is located in Gegharkunik province, in the south-eastern part of Vardenis Mountains. The name comes from the volcanic black rocks that were found on its slopes.

The Sevkar Observatory

At the height of 2700 meters on the northern slope of the mountain an observatory which depicts the universal knowledge of an ancient man was found. It depicts the zodiac constellations. The petroglyphs are carved on two large stones located side by side.Ancient sunwatch is carved at the central part of the stone around which you can see zodiac constellations and other astronomical objects. Here you can also find depictions of a giant man. It is notable that the sunwatch is divided into 12 parts which symbolize 12 hours of the day and night.
