Running vs Walking

Running vs walking. Have you ever thought which one is better for you? Running and walking can equally have positive effects on our body and mental health. However, it is important to understand which one of them is more suitable for you. Today it is very trendy and common to lead a healthy lifestyle, which is really good. It is because people become more conscious, so they pay more attention to their needs. Being fit, eating healthy food and living in a present moment are the main needs that human beings can have.

Running and walking are the simplest activities which don’t require additional resources. So, there is almost nothing that can justify your laziness. Both running and walking can become our lifestyle and solve many problems connected to our health, body shape and mood. These activities can give a lot of energy, improve the work of heart and metabolism, help to lose weight, as well as get rid of disturbing and unnecessary thoughts.

Even though these two types of sport have many positive traits, it is important to understand which one is more suitable for you and how you should do them.

Running

If you want to lose weight in a fast way, running is what you need. While running, you burn more calories in a minute than while walking. If you burn 396 calories in 30 minutes by running, for the same period you burn just 228 calories in case of walking. However, constant and intensive running may also cause a weight gain. It is because the amount of glycogen increases in muscles. Besides, quickly burnt calories have a tendency to recover quickly. So, in this case you need to carefully regulate how much you run and accordingly eat.

Running can boost your metabolism and improve the work of your lungs. However, it should be noted that people with cardiovascular diseases should be careful as intensive running is not for them. Generally, people with health problems should consult their doctor before running.

It is important to take into account that non professional and intensive running can lead to muscle injuries. Therefore, before starting your running lifestyle you should consider both positive and negative effects and properly get prepared for that.

Walking

There is an old saying, “those who walk a lot, live longer”. In case of walking calories are burnt relatively slower than in case of running. However, walking has many advantages. It is difficult to consider walking a sport type, if it’s not done, for example, during hiking trips. Anyway, no matter where and how you do it, walking may definitely have a positive effect on your health and well-being.

Walking has almost no contraindications, anyone can do it no matter age and health problems. It improves breathing, the work of lungs and cardiovascular system. Many doctors advise this activity in case of many diseases. People who walk a lot lose weight more slowly but more efficiently. In this case, calories are burning slowly but they are also recovering slowly.

One of the best things about walking is that you can do it whenever and wherever you want, and you can combine it with other activities. For example, you can walk and get acquainted with a new city, or you can walk and do shopping, or you can just walk with your friend and enjoy your time. We can continue this list of activities, but the most useful, effective and interesting way of walking is hiking. In this case walking really becomes a sport activity, which also gives a chance to be in nature and enjoy the views. We can talk a lot about the advantages of hikes but the main advantage is that this lifestyle has a positive effect on both the physical and mental state of a person.

Armenian Geographic has been organizing hiking trips in Armenian mountains for many years. We should note that during the last few years more and more people are getting interested in this activity and this type of sport is becoming very popular in Armenia.
