Arakelots Monastery

Arakelots Monastery of Mush is a medieval Armenian monastic complex. It was also called the monastery of Tirinkatar or Tsirinkatar, as it was located on the slope of the mountain of the same name. The monastery used to be on the territory of Taron region of Greater Armenia. Nowadays it is located in the territory of Turkey, in Mush province, 5 km southeast from Mush town.

The Battle of Arakelots Monastery

One of the famous battles of Armenian fedayi is associated with the name of Arakelots Monastery. At the beginning of November 1901, generals Andranik Ozanyan and Gevorg Chavush with nearly 25-27 soldiers were besieged in the monastery in order to attract the attention of foreigners. After several days of fighting, they managed to escape. They covered themselves with white sheets and by breaking the blockade of the enemy, they managed to go out of the monastery.

Graves of Famous Armenians

Near the territory of the monastery, there are graves of many famous Armenians, such as Movses Khorenatsi, Davit Anhaght, Asoghik and Ghazar Parpetsi.
