Climbing Mount Ararat / 6 Days

Ararat is one of the most important symbols of Armenia. In the summer of 2021 you will have the opportunity to participate in a dream ascent by joining our six-day Mount Ararat trip. As a part of the tour, we will climb the biblical mountain Ararat and get acquainted with many historical sights. The tour will take place in the territory of Turkey.

Program of the Mount Ararat trip

 

Day 1: Van city and Akhtamar Island

Our trip will start when you arrive to Van airport. Our tour guide will pick you up from the airport and we will drive to Gevash, from where we will take a ferry to Akhtamar Island. On the island we will visit Cathedral Church of the Holy Cross, which was built in the tenth century. We can also swim the in the lake. After lunch on the shore of Lake Van we will drive back to Van city, to visit stunning Urartian Castle. Afterwards we will drive to Bayazet. If we have time, we can stop by the Berkri waterfall. Overnight at a hotel in Bayazet. It is also possible that we will pick up the group from the hotel in Van, if group arrives earlier.

Day 2: From Bayazet to Ararat Camp 1

After breakfast at the hotel we will pack our equipment on minibuses and start to drive to the foot of Mount Ararat. We will stop near the Chevirme village located at an elevation of 2200 m. From here we will start to climb to Camp 1, located at an elevation of 3300 m. Our luggage and food will be packed on horses by our porters and transferred to Camp 1. After 4-5 hours we should reach the campsite, where hot drinks and small refreshment will wait for us. Later we will set up our camp and have a rest. In the evening,  around 6 p.m., our cook will serve dinner. After dinner we have free time. Overnight in tents at the campsite.

Day 3: Ascent to Ararat Camp 2

We will eat breakfast and pack our luggage, which horses will carry to higher campsite. Then we will start ascent to Ararat Camp 2 (4200 meters), which we should reach after 4-5 hours of walking. There, we will set up our camp and eat lunch prepared by our cook. We have free afternoon. We can rest, take some pictures and enjoy fantastic views. In the evening we will have dinner. Overnight in tents.

Day 4: Ascent to Ararat summit and return to Camp 1

We will wake up very early (usually at 1 a.m.), eat breakfast and drink something hot. Later we will start climbing to the summit of Ararat. We should reach the summit of Mount Ararat 5-7 hours later. On the summit we will have a short break for taking photos and celebrating our success. After short break on the summit we will start to descend to Camp 2 at 4200 meters. At the camp we will drink hot tea or coffee, eat something and rest for 1-2 hours. Later we will pack our equipment and start to descend to Camp 1 at 3200 m. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 5: Return to Bayazet, sightseeing

Breakfast will be at the campsite. Then we will pack all the equipment and start our descent to the point, where minibuses will wait for us. We will go back to our hotel in Bayazet. After some rest and lunch we will visit Ishak Pasha Palace – one of the most important palaces in Ottoman history, built in 17th century, located 7 km from Bayazet. Dinner. Overnight at a hotel in Bayazet.

Day 6: Transfer to the airport in Van

After breakfast at the hotel we will transfer you to the airport in Van. End of the tour.

Price per person – $870

The price includes:

– Transfer from the airport in Van and back,

– Transfer from Bayazet to Mount Ararat and back,

– Professional local guide service,

– Pack animals (horses), which will carry your equipment on Ararat,

– Hotel accommodation in Bayazet (with breakfast) – 2 nights, twin rooms,

– All meals and soft drinks during the climbing, with cooking service,

– Sleeping pads and tents (1 tent for 2 people),

– Crampons

– Entrance fees to museums and historical places,

– Ferry cruise to Akhtamar Island

– Climbing permit for Mount Ararat
