Lakes of Aragats

Aragats is the highest mountain in Armenia. In summer, thousands of tourists climb the peaks of Aragats. Climbing starts mainly from Kari Lake, as it is the highest and most accessible lake that can be reached by car. Only a few people know that dozens of beautiful lakes have formed in the glacial cirques and moraines of Aragats. These lakes are worth seeing, but they are accessible only to mountaineers. Mountaineer Aghasi Martirosyan, within the framework of the “3000+” project, ascended all the peaks of Aragats at an altitude of over 3000 meters and captured the lakes of Aragats, which you can see below.

This lake is located on the northern slope of Aragats, on the right bank of the Dashtakijur River, 15 km southeast of the Mets Mantash village, at an altitude of 3116 m above sea level. The area is 1.04 hectares.

Lake Arqayakan is located on the southwestern slope of the Mount Arkayits, 12.5 km southeast of Nahapetavan village. It is located at an altitude of 3079 m above sea level, the area is 1 ha.

Lakes Kuraghbyur and Yeghnalich

Lakes Kuraghbyur and Yeghnalich are located on the northeastern slope of Aragats, 230 meters from each other. Kuraghbyur is located at an altitude of 2995 m, Yeghnalich – 3016 m.

Lake of Lessing

Lake of Lessing is located on the northeastern slope of Aragats, at an altitude of 3200 m above sea level, 8 km northwest of Tsaghkashen village. The area is 1.6 ha; the maximum depth is 2.5 m. The lake is named after academician Franz Levinson-Lessing, who in 1927-1929 led the expeditions of USSR Academy of Sciences in Aragats and the basin of Lake Sevan.

Lake Hordakheghd is located on the eastern slope of Aragats, 13 km southeast of Geghadzor village, at an altitude of 3317 m above sea level. The area is 1.2 ha.

Mtnalich is located on the northern slope of Aragats, 15.2 km southeast of the village Mets Mantash, at an altitude of 3446 m. The area is 0.7 ha.

Lake Umroy is located in the Aragatsotn region, on the eastern slope of Mount Aragats, 8 km northwest from Tsaghkashen village, at an altitude of 3050 m above sea level. The area is 20 ha.

Rapi Lake is in the northern part of Aragats, 15 km southeast of Mets Mantash village. The lake is located at an altitude of 3001 m above sea level, the area is 1.2 ha.

This lake is located in the western part of Mount Aragats, at an altitude of 3148 m above sea level. The area is 0.4 ha.
