Khndzoresk is noted for its antic crag cave settlements where people lived from ancient times until the 1950s when the modern Khndzoresk was established.
The Old Khndzoresk was one of the largest villages of Eastern Armenia. At the end of the 19th century, the total number of residents was 4200, which was nearly doubled in the first half of the 20th century becoming more than 8300. Moreover, besides being rich in material culture, this village is also renowned for its historic past. The latter, took part in David Bek’s revolt and the village fortress served as a military base (1728-1730).
Khndzoresk today
Today, after being a hotbed of historical events, this village is in the spotlight of those who want to experience something new and explore Armenia from a completely different spectrum. There are numerous must-visit places in this area, the list of which is headed by the well-known swinging bridge which connects the two main sides of the old village. The bridge weighs 14 tons, has a height of 63 meters and is 160 meters in length.
