Mountain Aragats is the highest point of nowadays Armenia. It is also the most desirable destination for tourists. Anyone who had ever heard about Armenia, heard about mountain Aragats as well. Aragats is a lonely extinct volcano, the highest mountain of nowadays Armenia. Aragats is a majestic natural monument with four peaks – Northern – 4090.1 meters, Western – 3995.3 m, Eastern – 3908.2 meters, Southern – 3887.8 meters.
The following program is for those who have already arrived to Armenia, had a walk in Yerevan, visited all the attractions and just want to escape to the mountains for two days. We will pick you up from your hotel/hostel and begin our journey in the mountains of Armenia to start your mount Aragats hiking.
Day 1: Amberd fortress & Lake Kari (stone lake)
A medieval fortress Amberd is located on the slopes of mountain Aragats, 2100 m. above sea level. The history of Amberd goes back to the 7th century when Armenian noble family of Kamsarakans started there construction of the fortress, which concidered to be their summer residence. In the 10th century the Kamsarakans had to pass this strategic point to another Armenian noble family of Pahlavuni. In the 11th century the Armenian commander Vagram Pahlavuni ordered to fortify the complex of Amberd and build there a church, which was later named after him – Vagramashen. After exploring the complex, we will continue our way to the lake Kari. An Alpine lake is situated at the height of 3200m above sea level, on the plateau, under the mountain peaks. Not far from the lake we will set up our camp and have a walk around the lake. We will spent the night on the slopes of Aragats for acclimatization.

Day 2: Climbing mountain Aragats – The Northern summit
Mountain Aragats is the most powerful extinct volcano with its energy and beauty. It is also the highest point of nowadays Armenia,which has four peaks. A huge and picturesque crater is situated between those peaks.
Early in the morning we will start our ascent to the highest summit of Armenia – the Northern summit of Aragats. The height of the summit is 4090 m. above sea level.
