Mount Achqasar

Javakh highland is located in Lori and Shirak provinces of Armenia and in Georgia. It starts from the Karabakh mountain pass and spreads till the Dikmadash mountain pass in Georgia. The length of Javakh highland is 65 km: 20 km in Armenia, 45 km in Georgia. The highest point in RA is Mount Achqasar (3196m) and in Georgia the highest one is Mount Yemlik (3054m). The Javakh mountains are often called Damp mountains, Kangark, Dark mountains.

From the northeastern slope of the mount Achqasar the right stream of the Tashir river derives, which is called Mtnadzor. And on the western slope Yotaghbyur is located.

Achqasar is a lava cone, which consists of andesitians. The slopes are steep and covered with alpine vegetation, and the upland parts are covered with cliffs and alpine fields.

Village Paghaghbyur

We started our journey from the village Paghaghbyur, located in Lori province. Passing through the village in our car, we drove approximately 10 km.

We left our car in the field and started our hike. The hike was a little harder than usual. After a few hours of ascent we finally noticed the summit of Mount Achqasar, on which the triangle was standing.

From the saddle of Western and Eastern Achqasar we saw the lake of Achqasar. The lake allures us from the first sight with its indescribable beauty.

Then we decided to go down by another way to swim in the lake. The lake appeared bigger than it seemed from the top. For a mountain lake it was quite big.

Afterwards we swam in the lake as we planned and continued on our way.

In total we walked 21 km on that day.
